After growing up in Senegal, Hamady went to the United States where he attended Stoneridge Preparatory School in Simi Valley. After a good college career with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, he was recruited by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was immediately traded to the Washington Wizards.
